Production Summary

About the musical

Xena: Warrior Musical is a full-length musical theater production with over 20 original songs including “battle score” music for choreographed fight and stunt scenes.

Based on the popular television series Xena: Warrior Princess (1995-2001), this new musical seeks to embody the TV show’s endearing camp, heightened storytelling, and emotional sincerity, while standing on its own as a formidable and unique piece of musical theater. Xena: Warrior Musical has the potential to reignite the passion of an existing and loyal fandom to the TV series, pique the interest of casual viewers in the science fiction genre, and draw new generations of fans to this beloved cast of characters.

About the TV series

“Critics have praised the series for its strong female protagonist, and it has acquired a strong cult following, attention in fandom, parody, and academia, and has influenced the direction of other television series...In its second season it became the top-rated syndicated drama series on American television. For all six years, Xena remained in the top five.” (Wiki)

Xena’s popularity cannot be denied, generating a peak viewership of 7.8 million in the 1996-1997 season. This fandom has reached a coveted cult status and maintains over 100k active online users across various platforms from all over the world. Most importantly to note, this fanbase is still incredibly active.

What sets Xena: Warrior Musical apart?

From stunt-heavy fight choreography to technically impressive vocal scores, this show has a lot to offer. The storyline seeks to highlight themes present in the TV series and update them to meet audiences of 2022: government corruption, female leadership, and queer relationships.
